Emma Raducanu couldn’t make a miracle at the Australian Open after hanging up 1-2 against Danka Kovinic in the second round on January 20.

A hand injury has greatly affected the defending US Open champion Emma Raducanu. The 19-year-old tried her best, but lost 4-6, 6-4 and 3-6 to Danka Kovinic.

Raducanu started well when he won 2 consecutive breaks to lead 3-0. However, the British tennis player made too many mistakes and lost 5 games in a row. At the end of the set, Raducanu needed medical attention when he had a problem with his hand. She came back and lost 4-6.

In the second set, Raducanu promoted his strengths with forehand phases to score points. She broke twice and won again 6-4. In the decisive set, the injury greatly affected the British tennis player. She lost 3-6, after missing 4 chances to break the game.

This was Raducanu’s first defeat in a complete match at a Grand Slam. In the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2021, Raducanu gave up midway because of difficulty breathing.

After creating seismic at the US Open 2021, Raducanu received too many expectations. However, the pressure seems to make the young player not play well. She was continuously eliminated early at the following tournaments.

Meanwhile, this victory makes Kovinic the first Montenegro player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam tournament. It was the 27-year-old’s fourth win over a top 20 opponent, but his first on hard courts and at a Grand Slam.

Kovinic played a strong attack when he scored 40 winners compared to Raducanu’s 27. She has 4 serves to score directly, with the strongest speed reaching 188 km / h. In the third round, Kovinic will meet former world number one Simona Halep.
