Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday apologized for knocking his mobile phone out of a fan’s hand as he left the pitch after Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Everton.
Footage on social media emerged showing the Portuguese star collided with an Everton fan as he made his way to the tunnel at Goodison Park.
“It’s never been easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like we are facing,” wrote Ronaldo, 37, on Instagram.
“However, we must always respect, be patient and set an example for all young people who love the beautiful game.
“I would like to apologize for my outburst and if possible I would like to invite this fan to watch a game at Old Trafford as an expression of sportsmanship and fair-play.”
United’s lackluster performance against relegation-threatened Everton leaves them seventh in the table, six points ahead of the Champions League.
