MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines women’s soccer team dominated Tonga once again with a 5-0 victory in an international friendly on Saturday before competing at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi. , Vietnam this May.
Anicka Castaneda and Eva Madarang both scored twice as Carleigh Frilles also scored, the first blood draw in 13 minutes of play at Valentine Sports Park in Sydney, Australia.
Castaneda scored his first goal in the 15th minute to take a 2-0 lead before halftime. She brought momentum in the second half, completing a brace in the 57th minute, making it 3-0 before Madarang took over.
Madarang got his first goal in the 71st minute before sealing a five-goal win in the 85th minute.
The Filipinas beat Tonga, 16-0, last week. Coach Alen Stajcic and the team completed their training tour in Australia, winning all 4 friendlies including 1 victory over Fiji.
National women’s soccer team who will be participating for the first time FIFA Women’s World Cup still going on in 2023, will attempt to end a 37-year medal drought at the SEA Games since the team’s bronze medal win in 1985.
