ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Sophomore midfielder Avery Donahue scored the gamewinning goal in overtime to send No. 12 Harvard to the quarterfinals for the second time in program history with a 1-0 win over No. 6 and ACC regular season champions Louisville on Friday at Ocker Field. The Ivy League has now won 13 straight NCAA opening round games dating back to 2007. Harvard extended its win streak to 11 straight games and will now face the No. 3 overall seed and host Michigan on Sunday, November 14. The Crimson matched its best 17-game start in school history with the win. The Crimson – earning its second NCAA tournament win in program history – return to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2018 where Harvard fell to Ivy League rival Princeton, 2-1, at Bedford Field. Five minutes into overtime, Donahue and senior Mimi Tarrant found themselves in a 2-on-1 situation. Tarrant passed to Donahue who fired a shot from the left side of the circle to find the back of the net and secure the victory for the Crimson. Harvard’s Ellie Shahbo, a unanimous First-Team All-Ivy selection, finished the game with two saves as the Crimson had a 6-4 edge in penalty corners and outshot the Cardinals, 10-7.
