Nunez speaks after scoring a brace against Barcelona
Arsenal’s top priority in the next summer transfer window is to bring in a top-class striker. They parted ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts expire after the 2021/22 campaign ends and are likely to leave on a free transfer.
In recent days, the media speculated that Arsenal had approached Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker is considered Edinson Cavani 2.0 because of the similar playing style to El Matador. Nunez is experiencing a sublime season in the Benfica shirt when he has 24 goals in all competitions. The 22-year-old striker’s contract release price is £67 million.

Nunez is an Arsenal target.
However, recently, The Athletic said that Newcastle wanted to destroy this deal. Accordingly, the home team of St James’s Park has put Nunez on the list of targets to recruit next summer. With strong support from the new owners, the figure of £ 67 million is not too much of a problem for “Shoots”.
Newcastle are showing their determination to “turn into a dragon” in the Premier League since changing hands. In the January transfer window, they spent nearly £100 million on new recruits. Those deals immediately became effective, bringing the “Shoots” out of the dangerous group. Nunez can therefore believe in the project that Newcastle is building and consider the offer from this team.
